Workshop - Movement Fundamentals With Sam Smith, United Kingdom, 2025

Workshop - Movement Fundamentals With Sam Smith

WHEN?: Thursday 2nd October 2025, 6pm
WHERE?:Riverside Studios
FACILITATOR: Sam Smith

KEY INFORMATION
This workshop is designed to give non-dancers aged 14-21 the foundations of physical theatre that elevate the movement work so often demanded in modern theatre. We want our participants to leave with the confidence that movement is not a cue to sink to the back, nor a time to apologise for a lack of formal training. Movement Fundamentals will be a judgement-free space to upskill and bridge the gap between physical theatre and dance skillsets.
Youre not just an actor that can move youre a mover!

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Sam Smith (he/they/she) is a writer, director and theatre-maker based between London and Surrey. Their work spans dance-theatre, devising and new writing, constantly returning to questions of form, intimacy and dissociation.
Previous credits include: Scenes with boys at Riverside Studios (Bitesize Award for Best Direction); a dance-theatre translation of ACNE ROMEO at The Place; a site-specific production of Travis Alabanza's Overflow in the Women's Toilets at King's College London; and Constellations with Burnt Orange Theatre's 2024 REP Company at Drayton Arms Theatre.
They recently premiered their first solo work: ARGO, a verbatim dance-theatre show about ballet, transness and things worth saving, as part of Siobhan Davies Studios' NEXT Choreography 2024/5.
They are the founder and artistic director of Mad Jacks Theatre.
