The D.A.M. Trio—Dennis Davis, Carlos Alomar, and George Murray—played a crucial role in shaping David Bowie’s most experimental works. Alomar, a teenage guitar prodigy, began performing at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre, collaborating with legends like Chuck Berry and James Brown. His life changed in 1974 when he met Bowie, leading to co-writing the hit "Fame" alongside John Lennon and establishing a creative partnership that spanned from 'Young Americans' to the 'Berlin Trilogy' and even 2003’s 'Reality'.
In 1976, Alomar formed the D.A.M. Trio with drummer Dennis Davis and bassist George Murray, who contributed to Bowie's 'Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)' in 1980. They further solidified their influence by backing Iggy Pop during the recording of 'The Idiot' in Berlin. The trio's final performance with Bowie took place on Saturday Night Live in 1979, showcasing their innovative sound.
In June 2023, Alomar and Murray made an emotional reunion at the David Bowie World Fan Convention in New York, performing together for the first time since their last TV appearance. This moment celebrated their legacy as one of Bowie’s most iconic rhythm sections, influential in defining a generation of groundbreaking music.
