Accomplished soloist, perceptive director and close collaborator with the SCO, British violinist Anthony Marwood makes a welcome return for music to captivate you and perhaps surprise you in this exciting programme.

The heartfelt and hauntingly beautiful Violin Concerto was one of the very last pieces Schumann created in his tragically short life. Though rarely performed, its a work of great intimacy and Romantic richness qualities that also shine through in the vibrant, thoroughly entertaining Overture, Scherzo and Finale.

In between, Marwood showcases his exceptional skills in the witty First Violin Concerto by the teenage Mozart, and surveys the grandeur and brilliance of the overture to Handels dramatic 1709 opera, Agrippina .
