Decades later, a forgotten tape of his 1984 album Searching - a hazy blend of jazz, soul, and Moog funk - was unearthed by South of North, inspiring a new wave of leftfield artists.
What once sounded too strange for its time now feels inspired - the work of an artist who never stopped exploring, even when no one was listening.
