Festival of Exeter in the 1920s

The Festival of Exeter in the 1920s celebrates what Exeter was like 100 years ago. Over ten days there are opportunities to explore the past in different ways with a range of events and exhibitions organized by local history groups in and around the city.

The Cathedral Archive and Exeter City Football archive each host a special event featuring what was happening in the 1920s.There are guided walks to join, one around Exeter city centre and one in Heavitree, looking at what remains from the 1920s, what's vanished and what's changed its role. 1920s' music and dance will feature as the prelude to a specially created dramatic presentation re-imagining characters from Exeter's West Quarter.

Local history groups will host some of their own researches at the Exeter 1920s' Fayre which provides another chance to meet the West Quarter characters. And there are quieter sessions reflecting on research into what people in Exeter were eating and drinking in the 1920s and what sort of treatments they might have been able to access for illnesses and injuries.
