The Devonshire Dome: Europe’s largest unsupported dome, was originally known as ‘The Great Stables’ with enough space for up to 120 horses. It was a hospital from the 1870s to 2000 and was the last of England’s hydropathic hospitals to close. Today it’s a draw for architecture fans and even houses a spa inside.
Pavilion Gardens: With over 20 acres of landscaped garden to enjoy, Pavilion Gardens is a stunning example of what Derbyshire has to offer. The River Wye runs through the gardens, providing an enchanting atmosphere for your stroll through the grounds.
Three Shires Head is where Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire all converge into one beautiful location. This is one of the best wild swimming spots in the UK, and after you’ve been for a swim you can have lunch by the waterfalls. Bliss.

Food and drink

The Vault opened as a pub in 2000 having previously been a building society and, before that, a chemist. It offers everything from all day breakfast to burgers and a classic pub Sunday Lunch. They also have an extensive drinks menu with several signature drinks if you want to try something a bit different.
A café with a twist, High Peak is primarily a bookstore, with over 5,000 square feet of books on offer. There’s an extensive breakfast and lunch menu alongside a wide variety of speciality loose leaf teas and other signature hot drinks.
La Gaby is a family-owned, authentic Italian pizzeria. Most of their ingredients are locally sourced in and around the Peak District, with the rest being imported straight from Italy. The small but expertly curated menu has something everyone will enjoy.

Cavendish Arcade is Buxton’s oldest shopping centre and is a hub of boutique stores. If you’re looking for something unique as a gift, or just for yourself, definitely pop into Cavendish Arcade.

History and Culture

Lud’s Church has a very interesting history. Not actually a church but a 100m long chasm, it’s the focus point of several myths. It’s said to be the place where Robin Hood and his Merry Men hid from the authorities, and is also the focus point of the legend ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Giant’.
Poole’s Cavern, a two-million-year-old natural limestone cave, is considered a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Take a tour of the cave system and learn of its archaeological history and fascinating geological features.
Also known as Grinlow Tower, Solomon’s Temple stands atop a Bronze Age burial mound. The tower is 20 feet tall and stands on a ridge 1,440 feet above sea level, offering stunning 360 views of the Derbyshire countryside.
