They are also recognised for their positive attitude towards education, support of the local community, and improvement of sustainability within the hotel and guest experience.
Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, part of the BWH Hotels GB group, is committed to sustainability through various initiatives. They grow their own produce and flowers, which helps reduce their carbon footprint and enhances the quality of their offerings. The hotel is also exploring new ways to increase sustainability, including an honest review of their carbon footprint and making smart, steady changes to fit both regulations and day-to-day hotel life.
One impressive achievement has seen them embracing the talents of individuals with additional needs such as Down’s syndrome and ADHD. The Castle Green Hotel has taken significant strides in creating an inclusive workplace where neurodiverse individuals can thrive. By employing staff with additional needs, the hotel not only provides meaningful employment opportunities but also showcases the unique strengths and abilities these individuals bring to the team.
”Here at the Castle Green Hotel we employ 6 staff with additional needs working closely with Sandgate school to offer work experience every Friday. We’ve since taken on 4 staff members part time on evenings and weekends. When the work placement starts, the school work with us to figure out which shifts work for our business- and the tutors also come along initially to support. We can then identify the strengths of the individual characters- their attention to detail for example can be a real super power when it comes to setting immaculate tables!
